Opponent’s options: Column m bingos (OBESITY most likely), row 1 bingos
Candidate plays: QUAG 1f, AVO l10, BED 2l
Potential plays on next turn: BED-U plays,
Subgoal: Either block substantial number of opponent bingos or attempt to outscore them
Resolution: In Diagram 20, your opponent has OBESITY, which is extremely difficult to block. Any blocking play will lead to an S hook, allowing your opponent to bingo fairly often with several racks.
Instead of blocking, you are better off playing BED. While this opens an S hook, this hook is difficult to use while playing a bingo in this pool, allowing you to outscore opponent blocking plays. If your opponent plays a bingo, you can play QUAG/BEDU, outscoring your opponent. If your opponent plays off one tile (such as NE), you can block the last bingo options knowing your opponent’s exact rack.
