Puzzle 1 looks like a bad position since there are many bingos available for your opponent using column b and rows 1/2. In addition, you are only slightly ahead and hold the Q. Most players would play QUITE/QUATE rather quickly, but the superior play is MUFTI c2 (20). MUFTI sets up QAT in two spots and blocks all bingos except for FURCATED. (FURCATED isn’t very likely because many of your opponent’s leaves will have 2 Es, such as AEERT). Your opponent has no way to block both spots, allowing you to outscore him so long as he does not have FURCATED.
