Score: 329-328
Pool: AEEKLNORRRS
Opponent’s options: FLAK a1 (32), SNARK l11 (31), S setups, LAR or LARK l1
Candidate plays: VOW 10b (17), VISOR 9i (13), GO c9 (10), ROW 10b (8)
Potential plays on next turn: Setups (VOTER after GO, column a after ROW), plod through the endgame
Subgoal: Maximize the difference in equity between yourself and your opponent for this turn and subsequent turns.
Resolution: VOW fails because it gives your opponent a potentially huge score using the A next turn in column a. VISOR also fails because it has little potential for future turns. GO is relatively effective in keeping your opponent’s potential to a minimum, but there are still a lot of good blocking options that your opponent has: perhaps even bingos, though it is a better play than either of the other two. However, ROW is best because it makes blocking extremely difficult for your opponent: even most blocking plays allow you a 25+ point play next turn. If your opponent doesn’t block, you should be able to score ~35 points next turn and set yourself up for an outplay on the subsequent turn.
